The Ultimate WorryWoos Emotional Intelligence Kit

$800.00

The WorryWoos Developing Emotional Intelligence (DEI) Program is a valuable and influential asset to any school or educational setting. The DEI Program is designed to introduce social and emotional learning as a fundamental part of language, visual, and performing arts programs, perfectly blending in with Common Core Standards to create a comprehensive, cross-curricular approach.

The program goals will be accomplished by including lesson plans on emotions, relationships and social-emotional skills in order to:

  • Build Empathy
  • Create positive emotional understanding
  • Improve emotional intelligence
  • Develop a healthy social environment

The WorryWoos program is based on several pedagogical philosophies adapted from Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligence (Harvard:1983) and the five CASEL Competencies. Together they form the foundation of engaging curriculum which subtly encompasses a UDL (Universal Design for Learning) approach. Lesson plans are presented in an inviting, age/stage appropriate manner relating themes in Literacy and the Arts with activities that reflect attention to developing critical thinking skills.

Message to Teachers and Educators

The WorryWoos DEI Program was written by teachers and educators for teachers and educators. The focus is on teaching children to understand, accept and respect everyones emotions. It is based on the WorryWoos book series which was created to help children realise that while we all have the same feelings, not everyone responds to a situation in the same way.

By educating children about emotions at a formative age, we hope that they will be empowered to develop life skills which will help them navigate from pre-school through the teen years. Social and emotional learning is a valuable tool which acts as a bridge between knowledge, impulsive actions and self-awareness, an asset for adults as well as children. The information in this curriculum provides a guideline which you can use to create effective lesson plans for your particular classroom. All suggestions can be tailored to the needs of the learning environment.

A Successful Program

I bought the WorryWoo pack at the ACA conference this year after looking for something to help a couple of children in my Kindy class that were struggling with a few heightened emotions. The curriculum that comes with it was easy to navigate and I used this to structure our lessons. We would focus on a different WorryWoo each week, completing tasks each day before lunch. We downloaded the colouring in pages and activities from the website and created a book as well that we extended with after lunch as they children wanted. This was highly successful with more often than not, the children asking each day if they could work on their WorryWoo book. We created homes for the WorryWoos to live as they were introduced and we found the children were highly respectful of them and role played ideas and concepts with them, clarifying emotions as needed. I have noticed a huge difference in my class, not just the children I was thinking it could benefit. I highly recommend this resource to absolutely everyone. It's easy to use and has great benefits.

The Woo's took the worry out of those yucky feelings!

My school purchased 8 kits for our Kindergarten and Year 1 classes. We are a low socioeconomic school with many problems arriving through the school gate. Often, with these big problems came big feelings! For us, the Woos have helped students to recognise these big feelings and develop some strategies to help deal with them. And more importantly, it has helped our students to realise that they are not alone; and that is probably the best outcome! Even amongst the Kindergarten students, I have seen the light bulbs come on as they realise everyone has yucky feelings sometimes. One little girl even decided there is nothing wrong with her if they wrote a book about being worried.
The kits come with everything you need to help address some big feelings and the gorgeous Woo characters give our kids something to hold onto. I would thoroughly recommend the Woos as a behaviour management approach in all schools and community groups. The more we normalise some big feelings in our little people, the better equipped our students will become.
